Product Description

GE IC693DNM200-BD – DeviceNet Communication Master Module

Introduction

The GE IC693DNM200-BD is a DeviceNet Master Module designed for the GE Fanuc Series 90-30 PLC platform. It enables the PLC to communicate with DeviceNet slave devices such as drives, remote I/O, sensors, and actuator modules over an open, fieldbus-standard network.
This module is commonly used in factory automation, material handling, automotive manufacturing, and distributed machine control systems where DeviceNet is the preferred industrial network.

Functional Highlights

  • Acts as DeviceNet Master / Scanner for up to 63 nodes

  • Supports polling, strobed, and change-of-state messaging

  • Integrates directly into Series 90-30 rack – no gateway required

  • Full configuration via Proficy Machine Edition or DN-config software

  • LED diagnostics for node status, network health, and module state

  • Supports standard DeviceNet baud rates: 125 kbps / 250 kbps / 500 kbps

  • Includes opto-isolation between network and PLC backplane

Module Structure

  1. DeviceNet Network Port – Shielded 5-pin connector

  2. Status LEDs – Network OK, Module OK, Error, Slave Activity

  3. Microprocessor Unit – Handles network scanning and messaging

  4. Flash Memory – Stores configuration and EDS mapping

  5. Backplane Interface – Exchanges data with CPU module

Typical Applications

  • Automotive assembly line DeviceNet architectures

  • Interfacing Series-90 PLCs with Allen-Bradley PowerFlex drives

  • Packaging and conveyor systems with DeviceNet sensors

  • Weld cells and robot network communication

  • Legacy DeviceNet machine upgrades without rewriting ladder logic

  • Linking I/O blocks, light curtains, solenoid banks, weigh modules, etc.

Installation & Commissioning Notes

  • Insert into any available I/O slot on the GE 90-30 backplane

  • Network power (24 VDC) must be supplied externally per DeviceNet spec

  • Terminate network properly at both ends for correct impedance

  • Node addressing and baud rate can be configured via software or DIP switch

  • EDS files must match vendor device firmware for correct mapping

  • Use shielded trunk-drop cable for environments with electrical noise

Maintenance & Service

  • Supports hot-swap only when CPU is in Stop Mode

  • Network diagnostics viewable in PLC ladder or via RSNetWorx / PME

  • Replaceable without removing field wiring

  • Low failure rate due to isolated design and fanless cooling

  • Keep one spare on hand per production line for uptime insurance

Additional Notes

  • Suffix BD indicates a specific firmware + hardware bundle revision

  • Still supported in GE’s legacy product lifecycle program

  • Can coexist with Ethernet, Genius, Profibus, or other comm modules in same rack
